Statement

I'm interested in the tension between order and chaos, constraints and freedom. My practise is informed by experimental tradition of abstract painting in according with the ornamental mosaic work of the South Europe and North Africa.

I spread thousands drops of silicone, each around 4-8 mm in diameter, evenly applied across a primed white canvas. The drops contain printed digital images depicting a crouching figure. From the distance, the work appears to be a monochromatic surface that modulates slightly as the colour of the drops varies. This is due to the interaction between the silicone and the photographic film, the variations in the thickness of the silicone, and the orientation of the images. Only from close up can the dizzying multiplication of the icon be appreciated.
